Dr. Sheila DuMont
Dr. Sheila DuMont is a versatile performer and educator based in Williamsport PA. She has taught flute privately for 20 years, and currently serves as professor of flute at Lycoming College. Native to the area, she is a graduate of South Williamsport School District. She holds degrees in flute performance and musicology from Mansfield University (BM), Penn State University (MM, MA), and finally Shenandoah Conservatory (DMA). Her doctoral studies were completed with Jonathan Snowden, former principal flutist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, whose guidance allowed her a strong background in orchestral excerpts and performance. With her background in musicology, Dr. DuMont likes to incorporate a solid introduction to music theory and history into flute lessons, adapting each lesson to the individual needs and goals of the student. Her extensive experience with audition prep is an asset to any student preparing for PMEA, college auditions, and competitions.
