Those Pesky Earworms!
Ok I admit, the title of the blog does not sound very pleasant. However, "earworm" is simply a song, even just a small portion of a song, that gets stuck in your head. Yes, we've all been there. One or two lines of a song will just get stuck in your head for days on end, then suddenly disappear. Personally, I keep experiencing "Crocodile Rock" just randomly popping into my head (of course, the most annoying part of the song, "LAAAAAAAAAA LA LA LA LA LAAAAAAAAAA LA LA LA LA LAAAAAAAAA....."). It'll hang out there for a day or two and then disappear for a few months. But before ya know it....Kayla Furman

Instrumental Winter Recital
On January 7, 2017, our instrumental students finally got to put on their recital (it was postponed due to weather)! All of these wonderful kids did such an amazing job with their performance! The parents and teachers could not have been more proud of each of those students. Here at Sides, we pride ourselves in the fact that our students get multiple opportunities throughout the year to perform. Not only do they have the chance to perform as a soloist, but in small groups as well. As I'm sure you know, performing is an essential part of being a musician. Do we play music with the intent ...Kayla Furman
New Lessons for a New Year
A new year is often a time for changes, resolutions, and new experiences. Why not make one of the resolutions or experiences music lessons? I could spout all kinds of facts and statistics about the benefits of singing or playing an instrument. Instead, I will simply say that starting music lessons is more than just learning something new. It's more than just an activity that can improve grades in school. Playing an instrument or singing is bigger than you and me. It gives you a chance to be a part of something that has been going on for thousands of years. It's a chance to be a part of ...Kayla Furman

Tips for Beginning Musicians
This time of year, all across the country, there are thousands of kids starting band or orchestra for the very first time! For the students, it's exciting and fun. However, I have noticed that there is one thing that is often forgotten when it comes to starting a musical instrument for the first time: Music does not offer instant gratification. Obviously, this could be different if you happen to be a child prodigy. But for 99% of the kids starting an instrument and starting their musical journey for the first time, they quickly realize that maybe it's just not as easy as they thought it wo...Kayla Furman

A Church, An Organ And A Maestro
Robert M. Sides is proud to install and service organs across our region. Recently, we had the honor of doing an organ installation at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Dickson City, PA. This organ installation is the largest, and one of the more spectacular organ installations we have ever done. Our organ specialist, Phil Maue, worked closely with the church and the Allen Organ Company to make sure that the organ the church got was exactly what they needed. The organ itself is quite spectacular. It was designed specifically for Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church....
The Sweet Smell of Summer!
Finally! Summer break is here (or almost, for some)! No more teachers! No more homework! No more tests! Just sunshine and fun with zero responsibility! Except for our young musicians! That’s right. Our young musicians don’t, or at least shouldn’t, take the summer completely off! It is incredibly important for musicians to stay in tip-top playing shape. Taking 2 or 3 months off at a time without playing at all can do so much damage, and really set a player back from where they were before they took the time off. Imagine that you lift weights. Every day you lift weights and get a good,...
